Oprah weighs in on Prince Harry, Meghan Markle attending King Charles’ coronation

Oprah Winfrey gave her two cents on whether or not Meghan Markle and Prince Harry should attend King Charles’ coronation on May 6.

The “Color Purple” actress, 69, sat down with her friend Gayle King on Tuesday’s CBS Mornings to weigh in on the subject.

“Do you think they should go, do you think they should not go? Is it something you’d like to comment on? I’m listening,” King, 68, wondered.

“I think they should do what they feel is best for them and their family. That’s what I think,” Winfrey noted.

“That’s what the bottom line comes down to: ‘What do you feel like is the right thing for you?’”

Oprah was also quick to note that she hasn’t spoken to the couple regarding their coronation attendance.

“They haven’t asked me my opinion,” she said.

Winfrey attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s 2018 wedding and King made an appearance at Markle’s baby shower in 2019.

Markle, 41, and Harry, 38, also gave an explosive interview in 2021 to Winfrey following their leave from the royal family one year prior.

There has been much speculation in recent months if Prince Harry and the former actress would be invited to Charles’ official crowning later this spring.

Harry will reportedly go to the event alone, as Markle, won’t be “brave or strong enough” to show her face.

According to late Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, Charles has “retained the moral high ground” by inviting the pair to the coronation.

“It’s likely to be incredibly uncomfortable for them if they attend, particularly Meghan,” he told Closer Magazine recently. “Are they prepared to face the music?”

“[Markle will] have to look in the eyes of a family she’s pushed under the bus,” he added.

“But I think Harry may come alone and she’s probably told him she won’t be able to be by his side with him if he does attend.”
