Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj has sampled the famous 2002 Diwali Riddim on her latest track Red Ruby Da Sleeze set for release on March 3, 2023.
In a post to her Instagram page, she posted a behind the scenes clip from the music video shoot giving a sample of the song in which the rhythm could be heard.
In a subsequent post, the famous rapper shared the official artwork for the song, which is creatively a photo of her standing beside a chef in a kitchen, and holding the handle of a frying pan. This time, she opened for a classy Jean Paul Gaultier dress and yellow St. Laurent heels.
Minaj goes on to thank Skeng for the behind the scenes action she posted earlier stating, “…S/o to @skeng.don for making that lil vid happen that we shot last night in TRINI!!!!

The riddim is credited to Jamaican producer Steven “Lenky” Marsden. This has appeared on several international hit songs by Sean Paul, Bounty Killer, Wayne Marshall, Elephant Man, Rihanna and Brick & Lace (although their single “Love Is Wicked” was not released until 2007). The New York Times described the song as ‘one of the most popular reggae rhythms of all time, spawning hits, sequels and — inevitably — rip-offs. If ever there was a beat that deserved its own Behind the Music, this is it.’ Similarly, the album was heralded as ‘the best reggae album’ released in 2002.
